Unconditional and selfless love. Prioritizing the needs of others without the expectation of something in return.
Those who identify with Agape (or altruistic) love are the givers in a relationship. They are both selfless and caring, often prioritizing their partner's needs over their own––as they are motivated by a concern for the wellbeing of those they love.
Agape love, is in some respects, the purest and truest form of love in that the act of loving is itself the underlying motivation for these people—there is no embedded need for reciprocity or love in return. Having said that, these people feel most loved when they too receive the same kind of selfless love from their partner. This makes Altruistic lovers particularly appreciative of acts of care and kindness from their partner.
Altruistic lovers are also highly accepting. They choose to love unconditionally––extending beyond any potential flaws or insecurities their partner may have. This makes them very capable of committed, long-term relationships.
Agape means choosing to give love irrespective of circumstance, even potentially toxic or harmful ones. Though it may be difficult, those who identify with Agape must be careful that they aren't handing out their love for free to those who truly don't deserve it.
This may be particularly true for Agapic lovers who find themselves in relationships with high scorers of Ludus or low scorers on Warmth or Agreeableness, who may abuse your love and take it for granted.
